Content is crucial for your website to stay relevant and get noticed by both visitors and search engines, but how do you make quality content? We’re living in a Golden Age for websites because quality content is so important. This means almost every time you visit a website, you will find a good source of information on what you’re looking for. We are moving past the age of websites filled with nonsense keywords and useless information. This means that if your site has good, quality content, you have a higher chance of ranking on the first page , turning visitors into customers. How do you make quality content?
Write what you know
You are an expert in your field, so share that experience! Show off your knowledge of your profession, trade, or area of expertise. Talk about common issues in your field, talk about new innovations or products, or talk about your experiences.
Write what they don’t know
Your readers, and potential customers, are most likely looking on your site because they want information, so give it to them! Talking about your trade gives your reader the information they’re looking for as well as reassuring them that you know what you’re talking about. That extra bit of confidence you show can mean the difference between a website visitor and a new customer.
Add a few pictures to break up blocks of text and attract the eye of your readers. Photos or infographics can also add to your point or statement. When you add pictures, make sure you can use the picture on your site and add photo credits to the photographer or website you took the image from. You can easily use the Creative Commons website to search a wide variety of image sites for free images that you have a right to use for commercial use. You can also buy images from a stock photo website. Just don’t copy and paste photos from other people’s sites, or use images not labeled for reuse.
Follow a consistent format
Figure out what format you want to write in and write in it! If you want to write at least once a day on a subject, you might want to use a social media account and work on writing short bits of information, such as 100 words or less, essentially a micro-blog. Or you could write a regular sized blog that you constantly update, either every day, every week, or every month. A normal blog post is around 400-600 words long on a lot of wide ranging subjects. Blogs also benefit from different series, such as writing a blog post every month about new developments around your office or changes in your industry. If you have a lot of free time on your hands and have a subject you want to write about, write an article and post it to your website. Articles can range from 500 words to over 2,000.
