The NC Business Resources Directory is a comprehensive list of organizations and individuals interested in promoting North Carolina Entrepreneurship. These resources provide business counseling and assistance, entrepreneurial education programs, and business financing.

The Small Business and Technology Development Center provides management counseling and education services to small and mid-sized businesses in North Carolina.  The site includes a handy Business Start-up Guide for first-time entrepreneurs.

The Institute for Rural Entrepreneurship provides several programs designed to encourage North Carolina entrepreneurship. These include:

  • New Generation Ventures: Encourages young NC adults aged 18-30 to pursue self employment as a career option. Provides business coaching, training, and networking assistance.
  • Project Gate:  Assists workers who have been laid off in starting their own businesses. Provides free business counseling and scholarships for business management and vocational training.
  • Business Resource Alliance: Aims to actively champion entrepreneurs through the group support of State and Regional agencies.

The US Small Business Administration NC Division provides entrepreneurs with comprehensive information on how to start a business in North Carolina. The organization helps new business owners register their business, choose a location, write a business plan, finance the business, hire employees, retain employees, and more. The organization also provides entrepreneurs with mentors who can help them avoid common new business pitfalls.

Good Work is a community development collaborative with a mission to strengthen local entrepreneurs, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders through culturally-appropriate support and partnerships.

The Nussbaum Center for Entrepreneurship is a business development service located in Greensboro that aims to assist early stage entrepreneurs in the community. The center provides office and light manufacturing space as well as such support services as business counseling, a copy and fax machine, mail boxes, data entry, and their EASE program, providing access to valuable entrepreneurship resources. The Council for Entrepreneurial Development is a nationally connected network of individuals and businesses that provides education, mentoring, and capital-formation resources to technologically-based entrepreneurs in the Triangle area.

NC LEAP provides education and legal representation to low-wealth entrepreneurs throughout North Carolina. It also assists entrepreneurs in gaining pro bono access to patent services.

The Economic Development Partnership offers free phone consultations to entrepreneurs interested in moving to North Carolina. In addition, the organization offers a team of industry managers who can visit companies to provide recruitment and training assistance.

The Small Business Center Network offers a wide range of programs and services for existing and prospective business owners. It specializes in entrepreneurship training, international business, bio-business, and government procurement.

Run by the college of business, the East Carolina University Small Business Institute provides specialized, onsite management assistance to small business owners. Under the direct supervision of the Director of the College of Business, student teams are paired with entrepreneurs to identify core challenges, key opportunities, and potential solutions.
